Archiving Before and After Tragedy In-Person
At the time of the October 27 synagogue shooting in 2018, the Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives had been deeply embedded within the local Jewish community for 30 years. This strong, pre-existing relationship between archive and community appears to be unique in the history of American mass casualty events, creating important opportunities both for the archive and for the community it serves.
This program explores how that foundation shaped the response to tragedy and examines the lessons that can be drawn from the experience—lessons that are valuable to anyone working in public history, even outside the context of a community crisis.
Speaker: Eric Lidji, Director, Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives, Senator John Heinz History Center
