Karl Stern Lecture Series - Professor Pamela Cooper-White (Union Theological Seminary)

Karl Stern Lecture Series - Professor Pamela Cooper-White (Union Theological Seminary) In-Person

At 2:30 PM, there will be a book launch for Prof. Burston's recently published book A Forgotten Freudian: The Passion of Karl Stern (Karnac Books, 2016).  Stern was a brilliant and underappreciated Canadian psychoanalytic psychiatrist who was a convert from Judaism to Catholicism.  Along with keeping up correspondence with luminaries like C.S. Lewis, Jung, Reinhold Niebuhr, Freud, Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton, he himself wrote deeply about Freud, faith, and culture.  Prof. Burston's book is major contribution to restoring Stern to his deserved place in the contemporary conversation about faith, culture, and psychoanalysis.

At 4 PM, Prof. Pamela Cooper-White of Union Theological Seminary in NYC will give the 2nd Annual Karl Stern Lecture entitled "Old and Dirty Gods: Religion and Freud's Wednesday Night Psychological Society from Hapsburg Vienna to the Holocaust". The lecture will be followed by a question and answer period and a wine and cheese reception.
