43rd Annual Phenomenology Symposium: Phenomenology of Illness Today
Illness is an inescapable part of the human experience, shaping how we live and think. To explore this, Duquesne University's Simon Silverman Phenomenology Center welcomes Havi Carel, PhD, of the University of Bristol, author of Illness: The Cry of the Flesh and Phenomenology of Illness. Dr. Carel’s insights will deepen our understanding of how illness challenges our experience of the world and transforms our philosophical view of being.
This event is free and open to Duquesne students, faculty, and staff, as well as professionals in philosophy, medicine, nursing, psychology, theology and more. The symposium features two lectures by Dr. Carel:
- 9 a.m. - Duquesne Community Lecture: Illness as Epoché
- 11 a.m. - Public Lecture & Q&A: Radical Bodily Doubt
